Classwork & Homework
Classroom work and Homework
Successful students
· Come prepared for class and participate in class every day.
· Complete all class and homework
· ASK QUESTIONS when they don’t understand something.
· Arrange for extra help before or after school.
· Budget their time wisely and plan ahead.
· Arrange to have a quiet place to do their homework free from distractions.
One way that we keep parent/guardians informed about school is by assigning homework. There are several important why homework is given.
· It informs parents about what their children are learning in school.
· It reinforces learning that took place in class and review concepts taught that day.
· It prepares students for the learning that will occur the next day.
· It develops habits of mind that students will need in order to be ready for college and careers.
When a child does not complete homework assignments, we feel it is important for parents to know. We use the assignment planner to let you know when this has happened.
· When a child misses an assignment, a “Not Done” stamp will be placed next to the missing assignment with a place for parents to sign. The student is responsible for getting the planner signed by their parent/guardian and completing the assignment that night.
· In addition, all late work will lose points for every day it is late, which will be averaged into a student’s grade.
Assignment Planners
White Brook Middle School provides student assignment planners for each student in the school.
· Students are expected to write down homework for each class, and write “none” if a teacher has assigned no homework. Teachers provide time for this task and there should never be an empty box on the assignment planner.
· Please read and check the planner every night to make sure that homework is being copied down and completed, as well as to see if teachers have written any notes.
· We strongly recommend that you and your child develop some kind of system for checking the assignment planner. We understand that your lives are incredibly busy. Something as simple as deciding on one spot in house where students will put their binder and any papers they need to give to parents can make it easy on parent who work long hours. This place could be a kitchen counter or a coffee table.
